Metering CommunicationsThe DCX is a low-cost external interface that allows real-time communications with nearly any meter on the market today. Since the DCX uses two-way digital cellular or Ethernet connectivity, energy and demand registers, power quality and interval data can easily be requested and retrieved. Each unit can be connected to multiple meters using RS232, RS485, Ethernet or wireless LAN connections. Using a standard RS232 connection, up to four devices can be attached to the DCX. The RS485 protocol supports up to 32 connections to one DCX. This reduces the cost of hardware and monthly communication charges associated with telemetry carriers. The DCX is a low-power device (~1.5 watts) that can be powered by any AC power source of 85-305 volts. Further, the unit features multiple antenna options and LED indicators to indicate proper operation. The unit's onboard web server allows for direct interrogation and control of both the DCX and all devices it is interfaced to. The web server and DCX firmware can be updated remotely, which means that no one ever has to visit the unit once it is installed. A utility can interrogate the meter directly using its own MV-90 system or via the manufacturer's software of the device being interfaced.
